So i just installed the twm shifter bushings. I was installing the bushing on the transmission arm that controls the side to side movement. In the instructions it says "make sure the transmission arm moves freely" while the arm was out of the engine bay. Mine wouldnt, in fact i had to use a c-clamp to press the bushing in. So i put abit of grease on it to help lube it up and installed it. Just took it for a test drive...i pretty much have to either use both hands or shift my buddy position to get the most strength to push the shifter sideways. Did anyone else have this problem. Is this fixable or will it get easier as it breaks itself in?

you have to use the supplied sandpaper to sand down the arms a little till the bushings move freely

thanks. I just called twm to make sure thats what i had to do. It says to do that on the first pin, which i did. But not the second pin that controls the side to side movement. I guess, ill take it all out and start over..lol.

snakes, did you ever fix this issue? i replaced shift bushings and tried to do the arm bushing, but like you, i put it all together, even cleaned the pin with supplied sand paper, and i had to push the pin into the bushing with a vice. i could barely move the trans arm with my hands. so i took it back out and put it back to stock. i knew i wouldnt be able to move the shifter side to side if i put it back in the car like that. what did you come up with?

Yea, i ended up using my dremel tool with a 80grit bit on it and sanded it down pretty good and then put some grease on it. It shifts like butter now.

i just dont get why they would make it that tight to start with. i can understand cleaning the pin up, but to me, you shouldnt have to take any material off the pin. i trashed the twm bushing getting it back out, so i think im gonna try the ams bushing.

Lol now I find this thread. Yup. Fucked my bushing putting in. Fucked my arm trying to take off. Thanks twm. Maybe not there fault but still. Now trying to fix this mess.

I've found a .pdf for the installation of the cage and shift lever, but I'm not actually sure where the bushings go. Does anyone have a photo of the pin that needs to be ground down for the control arm bushings? My kit arrived today, however, I won't be able to pick it up from the post office until at least tomorrow.

Today I was reminded how much I despise installing shift bushings. In use, I find the transmission a little too stiff, I think In hindsight, I would have been happy with just the shifter and cage. I remember that feeling dissipating over time in my old Impreza RS, but those bushings were made of polyurethane, these are metal. Looks like I'll be getting a weighted knob after all, I just find it a little too difficult to shift even though I sanded the shit out of the pin on the transmission arm and it swung like butter before putting it in.

Well now you have me second guessing whether or not to install them now
