I recently bought a Tactrix Openport 2 cable and Evoscan and was hoping to do some tweaking to my ECU parameters to remove the SST 1st gear torque limiter etc... but when I connected the cable and ran ECUFlash and tried to read my ECU I got the error 'no key(s) worked - perhaps this ECU has been intentionally locked?', the dash display said 'AFR Error' and the Engine inspection light came on!; this is not what I was hoping for. Can the UK FQ spec cars ECUs be tuned; do they need it?

Also does anyone know a good tuner in the UK for X's?

i think i recall a thread from another FQ owner saying that the ECU is locked because it comes pre-tuned differently than our cars. Apparently (from what i've read) you have to ask for some type of code or key or something from Mitsubishi UK to unlock it and then the nuke your warranty.

all the FQ's are locked from factory ;)

that was after they found out we could read it lol ..
I believe the 08 year cars are not locked ..

Anyway .. even if you extract it will appear to you as an undefined rom ..

Gunzo mine is a late 2008, so I guess they are all locked; has anyone ever managed to get around it without contacting Ecutek? So frustrating as I have been reading about all the good work you guys have been doing with tuning the ECU params.

As Ive only recently found out myself, all UK FQ models have EcuTek on them, but are locked. You need to get a mapper/tuner to unlock the ECU using "EcuTek unlocker" to reset the password . Then you can play around with the map after you have paid for the licence. If you have Mitsi warranty though?.. it will become void, but seen as though you are 2008, i presume you dont or are nearly out of warranty.

I asked this question just yesterday as ive recently just had my 2008 FQ330 manual re-mapped.

why can't you just buy another ECU and keep the stock one home? Get te new one tuned and be done, no?

Where are you? All years, all X fq models are password protected by ecutek, it can be broken into via ecuflash on the bench though, apparently not in the car.

I found this post on EvolutionM that goes through the bench process for reflashing the ECU which doesn't look that hard but I suspect there are some complications such as immobiliser codes; has anybody done this procedure on a UK Evo X successfully? If so what ROM did you flash, as due to the locking we cannot tell what ROM our ECU's are running.

You can look for graham white .. he's near around london I think ..
You can get it out without the ECUTek unlocker .. ask Graham ;)

Benching is abit on the dangerous side .. make sure you get all the pins sorted correctly before attempting ..

It will not cause you to lose your immobiliser or anything .. once you extracted it, you will need to flash in an original rom so that after that you can do it on car ..

I feel you dude. I'm in same boat.

Got an FQ300 and since i still have the warranty, I can't do shit without voiding it because of the ECUtek password.

I talked to the tuner and ECUtek has a couple of stages, such as 330, 350, 390 HP all done by ECUtek.

I'm dying to go for the conservative 350, but have to wait until my warranty is gone. :(

Thought about a second ECU, but a couple of gurus here did not recommend it since you'll loose some calibrations proper to your car (ex. SST).

if you warranty is near finished, go for the code and get your tune and 1st gear limiter delete ;)

Gunzo is Graham known as GrayW? Also as I cannot read my ROM due to the locking how do I know which ROM to bench flash back onto it?

Yes he can also be found in the uk forums.
I'll let you know the id later.. You can put in standard edm rom..
All edm ssts do not have any 1st gear limiters
So your improvement will come from boost increase and better finetune

Cheers for the help Gunzo et al; I didn't know EDM SST's didn't have the torque limiter; I thought only the FQ330 SST was exempt.
oops .. I am sorry I take that back .. FQs are not EDMs .. they are JDM ROMs .. FQ SSTs are 5237xxxx and FQ GSRs are 5255xxxx

These are the 1st batches of FQs before they were locked ..
please do verify thats the case .. (that your car is a 'fake' EDM :bowlol:)
