Meh. U.S. Top Gear still blows...especially Tanner's attempts to be a narrator. He tries too hard and falls flat in his attempt to sound inspired like Jeremy Clarkson.

He did represent by driving the EVO X though...

All three of the US guys need to take a couple broadcasting classes and learn how to do narration properly. You can't be monotone or you kill your audience. Your inflection must go up and down constantly to not sound boring.

Top Gear US is starting to come into it's own I think. You can't beat the original, but the US version is my second favorite car show now.

I wish the US top gear would just die.

I get so fed up with everything trying to be copied. Like we have no creativity, and can only copy what other people do. There is a fine line between getting an idea or inspiration from somebody else, compared to just trying to make a copy of it.

It's who the hosts are, and how they gel togeher that makes Top Gear what it is. They are very creative, and funny - not just funny by themselves (in fact only Jeremy is funny by himself) but put them together and it is like the three stooges, laurel and hardie, abbott and costello, etc..

Can you imagine copying Friends, Seinfeld, Cheers, The Simpson's, Family Guy? You can try all you want to throw in a bunch of ingredients that look the same, smell the same, feel the same - but you will not get the same result.

Every time I see the show I am embarrassed for the hosts. They must know how much they suck, and how bad the show is.

Yes no doubt that UK TG is better but there are episodes where US TG is pretty decent. Tanner is a beast and drives better than anyone on the UK version. Since he is a Pro drive he can do things that no one else can. You can't tell me that certain episodes aren't sweet like when Tanner races a LFA on a track while the other guys are playing Forza 4. Dialogue on the US TG is pretty weak but I will continue watching.

Top Gear US is getting better as long as they keep improving the quality of the cinematography, the hosts continue to increase their chemistry, and like I stated earlier, they all need to learn how not to be so monotone during their narrating.

Some of my personal highlights of the US Top Gear are:
-the Season One finale in Alaska, that one made me laugh pretty good
-the V12 Vantage segment, the two Astons speeding my the camera on the dry lake bed was absolutely beautiful
-Adam Ferrara's commentary on the Corvette ZR1, "I know, the rest of the world thinks that American's are arrogant. To be fair.........f**k you."
-obviously the best segment is the Evo X speeding down the mountain. I wish it was filmed better though.

While I agree that the hosts narrate like they're reading from a script that they've never seen before, they do have some great moments. I think the episode where Adam and Rutledge challenge Tanner to a number of competitions is the best one so far.

Clarkson said that the US guys are better now than the UK guys were when the show started. Too often we compare this show to the current TopGear, which has had a chance to develop and gel.

The irony is that Tanner is GREAT doing the talking when he's behind the wheel. The indoor speed record was fantastic, Tanner was just doing his normal driving fantastically thing, and when he's driving, he's more relaxed when he's just standing up talking. You can also hear his delivery skills excel when he's taking the EvoX down the ski slope. He needs to probably have a few drinks in the green room before he does his studio bits.

Rutledge should just be shot. Season one was justification for a VERY late term abortion. He started off the second season attempting to cull his stupid remarks, but eventually the stupid started seeping out badly.

You are aware the US Top Gear is owned by the same people that own the UK version right?

I don't see that that matters. A crap copy is still a crap copy. I just don't see the purpose. Is it to give time to showcase more cars that we can get in North America? Yeah maybe there is something to that - but I would rather just read the car mags and watch youtube clips. I just cannot associate with those loser hosts, and everything I see, I just say "well I have already seen that, and seen it done better on Top Gear UK" or "that was so stupid - they would never do that lame crap on TGUK".

I know that I am really not giving them a chance, but the spare time that I have outside of work and family obligations is very limited, and I just won't waste my time watching crap. I would much rather watch Jay Leno showing off his garage any hour of the day - at least he knows how to be funny.
