My X has 12,500 miles on it, and I just noticed some wear on the inside edge of the belt the other day. It's still got the plastic idlers, but I doubt they have anything to do with this, since I can see the spot that's causing the wear and it's between the crank and A/C pullies.

You can see in this picture that it's rubbing on the edge of the block just above the oil pan. I don't know what has to happen to make it touch there, but it's obviously happening. It doesn't look like its happened often, but this is the only spot where I can see proof of something causing the belt to wear on that edge. Thoughts?

Hyundai pulleys are most likely the issue. We have seen this a few times with cars running those pulleys. In many cases the tensioner needs to be spaced out with a small washer.

On a side note, I am running 2 hyundai pulleys on my built motor and havnt seen any signs of wear......(yet?)

edit: reading>me Thought you said you WERE running the hyundais. Anyway, the OEM plastics are known for this too, hence the reason people started switching them in the first place.
