Which oil ?

Hi All
Just been to my local dealer to buy an oil filter + oil .... the filter was Ok but they have large oil containers which they take oil from as and when they do as service!
As I want to do the change myself they kindly advised me I must use full synthetic 5W/30 oil ( they use Multilife C-Three ) .......... Can I use any reputable maker ( Mobil etc ) for this oil or do I need to purchase a specific named oil?
Thanks
Mark

P.S. Also, does an oil change really take 1.40 hrs to complete on the Evo X & if so, why so long ????

mine does take close to an hour, just because I let everything drain out.

you can use Mobil1, royal purple, AMSoil any full synth 5w30.
side note, do a search online. there is a nice website that has the step by step directions on how to do the oil change. sorry I dont have it on hand, it may even be on the forum, search (how to's) (oil change.)

Thanks, nothing on the 'How to section' that I can see! I'll search the web later .............
Read THIS, and believe it if you want. I'm aware it says 4G63 but the concept is the same for the 4B11. We use practically the same exact turbo as the 4G63 does just designed for the X.

Use AMSoil, it's good stuff.

Trouble is I'm in the UK so Mobil1 looks like my best bet ...... Castrol would be another ......
Have fun with messed up bearings.

Or...

Let me be more specific. If you are not in FP's so called "racing" engine category then by all means, any fully synthetic 5w30 will suffice. If you plan on modding, invest in some good motor oil when you do.
I have the same issue bieng in EU .. i dont have as many options as the guys in the states :( am currently running whats recommended by mitsu in spain which is repsol i believe... but i have a stock turbo :) for now.... :D

Thanks, no plans to mod at the mo so mobil1 will be my choice this time around.
I'm by no means an expert, I just follow the advice of the experts. Don't thank me, thank them.
if you had to choose between castrol edge sport and mobil1..

you would choose castrol everytime...

i'd even choose it over other "boutique" brands..

but im running amsoil atm... if they could send me another box I would keep running it, otherwise ill probably have to run castrol again :|

Can't find Castrol edge sport in 5W30 mix anywhere in the Uk so it will have to be Mobil1 !!!!

Unless your using a different mix ( 0W40 etc ??? ) :wtfsign:
mobil 1 is fine

and an oil change takes 15-30min depending on if you let your car cool down or not.... draining it when it is still hot is better
Draining it while it's still hot is better? You mean while it's still all over the internals?

How about let it drip all down into the oil pan first before you do it.
I'm personally running Amsoil 10w30 Dominator b/c it has a high amount of Zinc/ Phosphorous content. Before that I ran Amsoil 0w-30 and before that Mobile 1 Extended Performance 5-30. They're all good oils, but emissions standards have changed, and they have removed Zinc / Phosphorous from a lot of oils due to the fact that they can harm some catalytic converters. As a result thats means you get less protection than you used to. For a stock car your standard Mobile 1 / Amsoil is fine I'm sure, but I've made quite a few power mods, and as such, I think it's a smart idea to go to an oil that protects against wear better.
An oil change shouldnt take an hour and a half AFTER the fact your car is on the jack. The total amount of spent at a place can take an hour and a half no problem as there is/might be a line before you.

As for oil, they at least should be using is Mobil 1 fully synthetic 5w-30.

I use MOTUL 300 V 5w-40 fully synthetic. You might think its pricey but my dealer already charges me 90 bucks for an oil change (mobil 1) and motul just makes it 100 bucks... And MOTUL seems to be a lot better from what I can tell when it comes to driving. Not dissing Mobil 1, i used it for a year...
i have used rotella t6 5w-40 on my old sti and it worked great. Will probably use that on my evo as well
any motul where you are?
any motul where you are?
Nope, no Motul in the Uk as far as I can see :confused2:

Chosen Castrol Edge 5W30 in the end as Xtreme.Uk who I purchased the car from use it on all their changes and they say they have at one time or another, tried all types available!

Thanks for your help and advise gents ( ahem, sorry ... to be PC...ladies as well if there are any !!!! )
