Q: Why Can't I edit an old post of mine?

A: We allow our users to edit their on posts, as long as the posts are relatively recent. Once a particular post is old enough, that privilege is revoked.

Our reasoning for this is to prevent people from going back to very old posts and either removing or editing the content, which can completely invalidate the entire threads in which they exist.

A classic example of this is when someone blows an engine. They'll try to go back and edit all of the threads where they posted extensive modifications to the drivetrain, 500hp dyno sheets, etc. Their hope is that by removing the evidence of their extensive modifications, they can have Mitsubishi replace the motor under warranty instead of accepting responsibility for the failure. If we allowed them to edit their old posts, not only would the discussion threads about their modifications not make any sense, but we would also be aiding their dishonesty.

To be clear - we feel that most cases of failed motors are manufacturer defects, but there have been several cases of dishonest people trying to take advantage of the warranty that they blatantly voided.

That said, if you have an honest, legitimate reason to edit an old post, contact a moderator of that particular subforum and he/she can try to assist you.
