So me and a friend were talking about when we are going to take our carbon fiber trunks off for the winter to avoid the corrosion from road salt among other things.
Then i had the idea of using clear PlastiDip to put a protective coating over the carbon fiber and leaving the trunk on the car... any one have any experience with this?? Will the plastidip corrode the clear coat or gell-coat on the carbon? or this actually a decent idea???

btw if your not familiar with the stuff PlastiDip is basically a spray on rubber coating that goes on like spray paint and you can peel it right off if you want ( in the spring )

most CF products are shipping WITHOUT a clear coat. its just a clear gelcoat.

you can get the CF piece clearcoated at a bodyshop, or do it yourself, for added UV sun protection, then you can also apply wax to it which will add to more surface protection.. however the plastidip may react different to composites (unknown chemicals) the reason why it peels off metal is because metal is nonporous.

IMHO if you're that worried, COSTCO plastic food wrap and it'll be a great conversational piece at the gas station.

hahaha food wrap, i like that idea lol...

and just to clear up some misconceptions cf doesnt rust.. what im worried about however is the road salt eating away at the gelcoat/clear coat... whatever siebon uses these days... i just dont know if the plastidip is going to eat away at it worse than the salt lol...like if its alcohol based that would be bad
