Question Re: Rear O2 sensor (putting in WB)

Mods feel free to move this thread, wasn't entirely sure where this should go...under engine maybe?

Anyways, just wondering if you guys had some tips regarding the removal of the stock rear-O2 sensor. I was just going to do the mod that Xprimnt has a great guide for. Is this the sensor that a lot of people were complaining about being crossthreaded? Or was that the front one? Tips for getting it out? And...think this is doable without jacking up the car?

Depends on your size but if you can fit under the car without jacking it up you probably won't have enough ass to brake it loose.
Make sure you get a good fitting O2 sensor socket :)
Also if it looks like its going to strip STOP don't strip it out without having a replacement or tap and die set handy.

I did Jack the car up, but I didn't have any trouble removing it. I used a pliers (big ass) and not an o2 socket, but once you see it you'll know what you need.

The first time you take it out, it's definitely harder than if you've moved it around already. Also, just to make sure, you have a TP or something right? If you're still on the stock cat, the position is behind the cat and won't be good for WB placement.

No TP. It's not ideal for sensor placement because the AFR's will be slightly off. I'm aware of that. If I remember correctly, it's between the cats right? The stock placement that is. Readings will be slightly leaner than they actually are from what I'm remembering...

There is only one cat, the other bulg to the rear of the car is a resonator.
Closer placement to the turbo is better but not life or death. Just think of when people get their car dyno'd the tuner sticks the wideband in the tail pipe. I am curios on where you plan on putting the stock O2 sensor if your putting the wideband there.

However, I get to be the bearer of bad news: You really should have it in front of the cat. You can try it, but don't be surprised that your values are WAY off. The rear location is right behind the cat.

I have a spare TP if you want one for cheap. I used it to put my WB in before I got my exhaust. Now it's just sitting in my room, packaged in a box.

I've tried putting the wideband both in the front stock o2 sensor location (before the cat) and the rear o2 sensor location (in the cat). From my data logs, I really can't tell that much difference. My AFR tends to vary by 0.1-0.2 even on back to back runs (probably due to heat soak or other variables), so on my specific car, it seemed to be decent enough to get me in the right ballpark. However, I do prefer the front o2 sensor when doing changes to fueling. I only had it in the rear o2 to verify AFR was still safe while making changes to non-fuel maps (mainly mivec/timing).

Oh yeah, did you guys get any WD40 or any spray or anything to help loosen it up first? What about driving around for 10 mins to get it hot first? Anyone try that? (I'm just worried it'll be cross threaded and I'll be screwed :p)

I did use WD40. I sprayed every bolt on my exhaust system before I took anything off, just to make my life easier. It certainly didn't hurt!

Definitely spray the threads of the new sensor too, since you may want to remove it someday!

So...having stuck my arm under the car, I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to lift the car. LOL. I can't see what I am working on and touch the bottom at the same time. Oh well. Just an FYI for all you considering doing this.

As for lubricants, I got some super penetrating liquid wrench and also got some anti-seize which should do the trick I hope!
