Hello Evo Fanatics,

My names Alex, i currently drive a 2012 BMW 135i (n55) with minor mods. Got the car brand new back in October of 2011. I opted for the DCT (Dual-Clutch transmission) since there were no 6spd Manuals available at the time. I came from a 2007 Subaru WRX STi, with an FP18g turbo, FBO, and pro-tune.

I love the Bimmer, and i know you can get a lot more power with FBO and a tune with the 135i then an EVO X with equal mods, but quite frankly, i am getting bored of the Bimmer. I've always loved 9's and X's and i am debating whether to trade in the 135i for an 2013 EVO X GSR.

I miss the secure planted feeling of AWD at high speeds, and the handling aspects of the X.

Question is...would you? Now i know this is an EVO forum, and i will probably get the typical "Duhhhhhhhhhhh, evo FTW", but I'm asking from one car enthusiast to another enthusiast (non-bias). Thanks for reading fella's.

Here is a picture of the 1 :

Current Mods :

Performance ;

1. Jb4 Stage 2, map 7
2. 3.5 inch quad catback exhaust

Exterior ;

1. European Blackline Tail lights
2. Cyba Matte black kidney grills
3. Cyba Intake scoops
4. Eurotek 220 LeMans
5. Hartge rear diffuser

Suspension ;

1. Eibach lowering springs

My 135i has the new N55 motor (twinscroll single turbo setup). The DCT is boring to me. It maybe faster and great for track use but i miss that connection with a manual transmission. The aftermarket scene for the Bimmer isn't as broad as the X's. Mods are a lot cheaper than the Bimmers as well. My girlfriend said "I'm stupid for wanting to switch from a BMW to a Mitsubishi", but I can careless about brand names. I'm more for the performance.

I think you have just answered your own question

I'd highly recommend you go look / sit in an Evo X. And for more than 5 minutes. I think the interior / quality of the Evo is way below the likes of BMW. Unless you can honestly say you don't care about interior / quality that it won't annoy you as you drive it. I think you might consider the swap to the Evo X dull in a short amount of time.

This is one of my main reasons why I haven't stepped into a luxury car. I know I could probably never come back after having all of the creature comforts of the BMW, Lexus, MB, Audi, etc.

Don't get me wrong, I love my Evo but I'd probably have a hard time going from BMW to an Evo especially when you could get just as much power out of your 135i as a X with the same cash, if not more.

Your 135i looks very nice! Congrats.

If you get an MR touring it will feel a little more luxurious

Yeah but then he is back into a type of transmission he said is boring.

He will still get the rattles, pops, squeaks, etc, if the MR T is chosen though.

Just sayin, this would be the hardest part for me to deal with.

I agree, I personally like the raw feel of the X especially after mods, it can get loud and bump but if your like me and don't care too much for luxury and comfort, but can appreciate the feedback and the feel of the x, then have at her.. Make sure you try and get the dealership to let you take one for a good test drive.. Once you start modding though its hard to stop.. Lol.. Nice 1, love the 1M their pretty sexy

Fuccccck naw. Lol keep that shit, much cleaner, faster, and more luxurious then an X ever will be without putting 10k into performance mods, then more money for wheels, cf parts, lips, interior, etc.

Wrong move. You're supposed to go the other way.

My unbiased opinion: the Evo X is a crappy track car cuz it's really nice as far as Evos go. It's a crappy DD because it's really rough as far as cars go. If money was no option, hell yeah I'd have a stripped race car Evo X. Money is an object, though, so I could never butcher my car like Rick Cheterman did his.

That said, my octane blue (fastest color) X (GSR) will be up for sale soon! (26k miles)

Thanks for the compliments everyone. I can careless about creature comfort, and luxury. I agree, the 1 can be faster then an EVO with money, but that's any car with the right modifications. I am going to the Mitsubishi dealership on Wednesday to test drive a GSR.

I am not opting for the MR and the SST gearbox. After having this DCT gearbox, a manual is the way to go. In terms of reliability, how much power can the GSR handle with the stock block?

Yeah, i know what you mean. When it comes to a cars limits, i get pretty paranoid and don't really want to push it that hard if it comes to that. If i did get an evo x, my plan is a GT30R or FP Red turbo and FBO.

Sent you a PM.

As someone who has owned both (3 evo's and now on my second 135), it really just depends what you're looking for out of a DD and what your daily driving habits are. The 135 is a much better DD IMO (smoother gearbox, better gearing, better mpg) and still pretty quick with relatively light mods. On the flip side, the Evo's are all more raw and the traction provided by the AWD system is outstanding. They're fun cars, no doubt. The interior just isn't as high quality though. If the car will be your DD, you don't do much actual racing (autox, track, whatever), and you have any kind of a commute, I'd keep the 1er. Just my .02

Why not just trade for a 6spd 1 series? Or if you like the awd, get an awd 3 series? I tend to agree with most here that you won't be happy with the build quality. I'm not. I came from the Toyota and Lexus camp though so I'm a tough customer. Don't get me wrong, I like the car a lot, but looking back I wish I would have went with a 335i manual.

Not trying to compare a BMW as a whole to Mitsu as a whole or anything, but...

I never understood the massive fanboy status appeal for BMW's in general. Yes, they have great interiors and perform well for a DD with some ooomph but it seems every BMW owner (including the boring base model ones that are comparable to a honda accord) i've ever spoke to has told me there's something magical about them. They speak of them as if they're riding a fucking carbon fiber unicorn or something.

"Ooohhh le BMW driving experience! Precision engineering! Ultimate driving machine!"

Never understood it. I've driven all of them, they're just cars.

Can a BMW 135/335/M3 here owner enlighten me..
