2010 vs 2011 Evo X GSR: Same Stock Ecu Power?

Just saw that Road and Track has the 2011 Evo X GSR listed at 0-60 in 4.3 sec and 1/4 mi in 13.0, which got me thinking as to whether or not the 2011s got another power bump over the 2010s..

Previously I had seen 2008s listed as 4.9 0-60 and 13.4-6 1/4mi and 2010s listed between 4.5-4.9 0-60 and 13.2-13.4 1/4 mi in different publications. Now that I think of it I am not sure if I have seen 2010 GSR numbers in any magazine comparisons -only MR/SEs...

For reference here is the Road and Track article:

Here are the numbers:

I thought the 2010/2011s had the same ecu tune and are actually ~20hp higher then the 2008s stock for stock...I thought the only difference in 2011 is the offering of the SE model and a "sportier" exhaust note...other than that no "secrete" changes to the power.

I know the 2010 power increase over 2008 model wasn't advertised and neither is any news of changes in power for the 2011 but does anyone here have any insight as to whether the 2011s got another bump on top of the 2010 bump in power. Anyone or any tuners have dyno results showing this or link to an article online? Any info would be nice.

Thanks in advance!

Problem is I am likely not planning to do anything that voids my warranty so most likely no tune, just minor bolt ons. Really thinking about a Cobb AP and going stage 2, but in the end after having issues with my tcase already and seeing that it cost $3,880 to fix (which was thankfully covered by warranty), I just don't think voluntarily voiding my warranty is something I want to be paying for left and right whenever something goes wrong...I know you have to pay to play.

Any sort of tune is going to level the playing field. Even if the 2011 tune is a billion times better than the 2008, a Cobb Stage 2 will be even better, and make both cars equal.

It doesn't matter how good the stock tune is, if you're going to be doing ANY sort of aftermarket ECU mods.

If you're going to fuck with the ECU, you might as well fuck with it right and put on a Cobb map, or a protune, or something like that. You're going to be voiding your warranty, assuming an ECU flash does that, whether you put on a "stock" 2011 map or an aftermarket map.

I doubt you can just flash a stock 2011 map onto a 2008 car without doing something clever. The ECU gurus would know for sure.

I keep trying to talk myself out of wanting the cobb stage 2 since there is the potential of juking out the dealer by just "unplugging" it and flashing back to stock...anyone have any success doing so...a little off topic.

But back on topic, is the 2011 ecu upgrade something that Mitsu could do if I take it there for service if in deed there is a bump in power for the 2011s vs 2010s?

I uninstall my ap everytime I go to the dealership.. even for a oil change. All i have is CBE and K&N panel filter.

I don't know about 2010 ECU maps specifically, but I know there was a TSB of some kind in reference to the '08 maps that made the car far more responsive, pretty much what the '10's where right off the factory floor. Mechanically we all know the X hasn't changed, it's just updated PCM maps which as was already stated, becomes irrelevant with any PCM mods ala Cobb etc..

i remember someone dyno'd a bone stock one. it was at 250awhp i believe.

Unfortunately Mitsu has not really officially admitted to any ECU differences between model years, so you can't just walk into a dealership and ask for an upgrade. As far as I know, the 2011 ECU map has a different internal format from the 2010, so you can't just reflash your 2008/2010 with a 2011 map.

I also think Road and Track (and Car and Driver) does some funky things to get their 0-60 times, like having a foot of roll out or something.

Here's a dyno of a stock 2011, not sure what octane

^^ it really is, and your local team members or just some Evo buddies, everyone is modded... im going to to lie tho I like rolling around with a stock Evo, because one im different then all the others and 2 I have my warranty... I have signed documentation from service manager before i purchased the car that if something goes wrong and it isnt directly effected by the part I put on its under warranty, all i have is a test pipe

As far as the Road & Track issue goes- remember to take these things into consideration. I also picked up this issue and noticed two things that might explain the differences in times. If you look at the picture in the article of the gauges/display you will see that it has over 13k miles on the test car. It also is running Yokohama ADO8 Neova tires. I do not know how these compare to the stock A13's but these things might suggest that they picked this car up from a private owner. For all we know if could allready have a tune.

I also have heard that the 2010/2011 stock tune has more power than the 2008, and that the MR's TCU was reflashed as well. DSport did dyno tests and believed that the 2010 MR's real hp/tq was closer to 329/299 rather than 291/300. If correct then thats much higher than 20hp.

Anyone have thoughts on these ?

That doesn't make sense. Would be nice but if you subtra t the 15% drivetrain loss it ends up MUCH highera than the 2011 dyno video a few posts up and if the 2011 has a more aggressive tune it should do better than the 2010. Id believe those numbers for an '11....course its all a bench dyno guess. ;)

If there are consistently better numbers put out by '11's it's not necessarily in the tune. Someone who is very bored (or obsessed) could check the important tables from '10 to '11 using ECUFlash and validate whether or not the stock tune is responsible. My guess is a.) there's no difference, or b.) there's very minor changes to tables that wouldn't lead you to believe it would make any significant difference (load compensation, temp compensation, or whatever.)

What did they actually change with the '11 exhaust anyway? Anyone seen a cutaway of the muffler?
