So im looking at these 2. I know that AMS gives u more gains, but how much of a difference are we looking at? Anyone has the ets one?

there is an ongoing thread about this...exhaust theory is the title I believe. I have had an 02 dump from ets, and I currently have an AMS widemouth. The 02 dump was very loud but its the best flowing dp. In NY i would stick with AMS unless you want a ticket everyday.

MAP. VERRRY similar to the ETS, but cheaper. And yeah there is another thread on it.

tickets wouldnt be a problem for me.. and i had a few people tell me that you dont get as much torque with the ets open dp as u get with the ams widemouth. And also it was a pain to install the ets compared to the ams. :duh:

#7 ·
i see.. what about the torque gains?

#8 ·
tuning. DP will make very little diff between the two torque numbers.
As far as install goes I did the MAP and that was my first DP ever and it just slid into place like so...... Call me lucky.

You need to tune for these to see the real gains in power and tq. Untuned these will be a a meaningless few higher number, but not like a tune would give. With that being said I was running like 360/358ish with ETS, but now am at 370/369 with AMS DP, now its hard to correlate those numbers because its now cold out and that helps. As the ETS I had on in the summer.

I think you should be more worried about how loud its going to be, they will both produce for you, but if you want a super loud exhaust once that turbo spools, then go with the ETS 02 dump, if you dont the go AMS, or ETS recirculated, or the MAP recirculated. They are all superb DP's

wow that def seemed easy, although we did a friends ets installation and it was such a pain.. how much does the MAP go for?

#14 ·
WD-40 soakage!! lol i let mine soak and resprayed multiple times for about an hour while working on getting the tranny out for clutch. Then brought out the Torque wrench and it wasn't too bad for me. I think I just had an extra easy experience with mine compared to what I hear from most peoples experiences on here. Also there is a little underbody brace that is right under the DP that gives a lot of extra room when removed.

if i have a wideband on the testpipe (where the AFR gauge is connected) i can just get a dp with just an 02 ..no wideband right?

#15 · (Edited)
Correct. You DON'T need to add an "additional O2 bung" It comes with one for your front O2 sensor already w/o the added one.

#16 ·
haha u were def lucky on that one..im gonna look into the MAp dp now..i had a few ppl talking about it but my top 2 were the ets and ams..ill give it a shot.

You will get a more accurate reading though from the wideband being the DP.

And yeah I used PB Blaster for 3 days prior to my install, it wasnt bad for me, but I have heard craziness about peopke shearing bolts and so on. I used a breaker bar for the bottom couple bolts and a 14mm wrench for the rest. Ratcheting wrenches help as well if you have them.

I've always heard this too, but why do shops tune cars with the wideband clamped to the tip of the exhaust? Is it just because they don't have one, or a place for one, closer to the DP? Or laziness?

#18 ·
You will be pleased. I've got my super hot and cold multiple times with no warping or cracking. It's a good quality piece. It's not too bad, just get the car up and let it the bolts soak for a while and use a torque wrench. GL!

#19 ·
thanks.. ill def do that.. hopefully ill have a dp by next week

#24 ·
Ok i was always curious about that.

#22 ·
well usually people buy a testpipe with a wideband and when they wannna buy a downpipe they dont really need another wideband. My a/f ratio reading are pretty good with the wideband on the testpipe

#25 ·
yea i agree..but it wouldnt be a huge difference on the reading.

#26 ·
So what dp did you get?? I have map o2 eliminator dp taking the exhaust was pretty easy but I did have little hard time installing the dp due to shape of it but overall it wasn't too hard. The sound is not too bad unless you really get on it.

#27 ·
i got the ams widemouth. Lat night i was talking to a friend that recently installed the ets open, and the weld that connects the dump with the downpipe broke. His car was lowered and not even as low as mine, so i wouldnt wanna risk it. :confused2:

#29 ·
yea the ets, we had to take the bumper off to make it easier to access.

#31 ·
This. I havnt run into anyone with an ets recirc. downpipe that has had any problems. I have this one myself and has been nice. I've only heard of the ets dumps failing. On the tuning aspect the dp gains are minimal on stock turbo.

#32 ·
yea i know ets and ams recirc are both as good..i was reffering to the ets open dump

#34 ·
DP install is cake take you 10-20 min to bolt it on. the uninstall of the OEM o2 housing is the PITA.

i'm running ETS recir , haven't found reason to change up yet.
the open dump i think is flawed do to the vibration and stress on the part don't think there would be a exact fix to that. You got a fire breathing wastegate blowing through a narrow one weld stainless steel pipe.maybe titanium would be better solution for the dump pipe IMO.
^^^
that's just for ETS think MAP uses a v band clamp correct me if i'm wrong.
