My weight reduction

Wow. This thread sure died off. Anything new? Hell, is there anything else at this point?

There is another bracket exactly like that further down the line. I ended up removing both.

If adding that bracket is part of a recall, why are there drilled and tapped holes in the casting of the manifold & block designated for that bracket? Was that added in the casting post 2008/2009 to rectify that issue? I don't understand this recall, i've never heard of it. Can you elaboratE?

I recommend you don't remove that bracket on the fuel return pipe (first photo, top right circle). It was actually added as part of a safety recall to secure the pipe after they found it to be a potential fuel leak/fireball risk.

Thanks!

I have heard that the OEM FMIC is 9 pounds, but I dont know if that is true.
I have one here I just weighed at 10.2 on my super unscientific bathroom scale

I'm pretty sure that weight is a damper in case of resonance. Lowers the peak amplitude of any excitation. In other words, it 'should' make the car shake less.

...

I also believe that's why there is a large weight on the bracket that holds the intercooler.

Like I said, it's works on paper and in theory...but the damn car is already bumpy and noisy that nobody notices the difference.
This.

So, for anyone who has removed the door bars, can we get an actual weight measurement?

I have just finished with the tar-paper sound deadening under all the carpet, seats, and spare tire (16.6 lb); padding and insulation under the carpet (5.8 lb) and the majority of the fia brackets and whatnot, so I think this would be a good next step, but not too sure if it's worth the risk of doing inside the door or hassle of removing the door. Interiors I can rip apart all day long, but taking doors off completely is a pita

For the fan install, how are you wiring the flexalite into your system. Are you just hard-wiring to ignition-on B+ and running it all the time, or using original or aftermarket thermostatic switching? Thanks.

Cool. But damn those pictures, I can't figure out where half of them are even located on the damn car...

Edit: I'm an idiot. Just realized that the 2 pages before the photos give the locations... :wallbash:

Sweet. Do you still have access to that homologation pdf with all of the unnecessary/removable bits too? The budget has mostly dried up, so it's time to start chopping away. I'll shoot you a pm with my email if you can still get it.

Did you manage to get any pics of the new heater unit installation/mounting?
