Probably the least expensive method is to use chemical [safe for aluminum!!] paint stripper available at every paint or hardware store. You'll want a large plastic bucket to put the cooler in and collect the drippings. Maybe agitate it with a plastic bristle brush.

don't forget to block/seal both endpipes of the intercooler, you don't want the debris to go inside, and then in your engine

 

So you guys recommend submerging the entire intercooler? What could i use to block off the endpipes if im going to submerge the entire intercooler?

 

cut 500 ML soda bottles and zip tie em on tightly like a cap.

 

Aircraft stripper

 

So another concern im having right now is, is it safe to brush the aircraft stripper onto the intercooler? In my mind i feel like it would get inside the intercooler.

 

You mean inside the airflow cooling fins? Yes. That is not INSIDE the charge cooler.

Only use nylon bristle or tooth-type brushes.

 

my friends entire ETS IC was painted black by mistake at a bodyshop. We used acetone and it cleaned it all up easily

depends on the type of paint used. Paint thinner or acetone will usually do the trick on regular spray paints. i wouldn't use aircraft stripper until all else fails. thats some harsh stuff.

 

I used radiator paint. I used one thin coat so i'm thinking acetone would work.

 

yeah just brush it off, comes off really easy
