Nice fix on that 3rd brake light even though you shouldn't of had to do anything imo since the trunk lid is $2k.

Holy Crap, that sucks about your hood. What fixes where it turns from sun? I never tried fixing it on my previous cars, I always painted over it. I would be soooo pissed about that, one day is a ridiculously short amount of time for a $2400 hood.

 

Yea, i hear ya. They are telling me that once you purchase these *DRY* carbon products, YOU the consumer/end user is suppose to clear coat the hood. If it is left raw, that happens, which is some MAJOR BULL SHYT. It's the cheap junk epoxy resins they are using.

I am makin them replace it. They are doin a "warranty replacement"

 

definitely sucks about the hood..you would expect to get better quality after you paid a chunkfull like that.

if i rob the local 7-11 in the near future, i may consider making the investment. i'd have to get it painted though because one piece of cf on a car without any other cf looks gaudy.

 

That wouldn't look awkward. Do-luck trunk and dry carbon hood. Even regular seibon carbon most likely wouldn't match the do-luck pattern. That equals big points lost at a show.

Actually yes. I have worked with Seibon and installed many hoods, never having an issues with fitment. I have also installed a Seibon trunk and no issues with it either and the finish turning in 24hours is weird, bad batch? The reason I say this is because although I didn't get the dry versions I did get the matte versions and the finish is perfect, besides cracks in the scoop...which they said they would replace under warranty.

 

I recently put on a trunk which fits fine, Hell if Endless and Volk/Rays use them then its a ok for me.

 

Was it their *DRY* Carbon Fiber Trunk Lid, or their regular WET-Lay Carbon Fiber wrapped FRP?

 

Its Seibon nuff said. I had heard they were getting better with their molds, but that looks like it was just rumors. I would say you get what you pay for but in this case it looks like you just get ripped off... I would paint the hood and be done with it (Lesson learned)..... at least you get the weight reduction.

Thanks for the post though...it insured that if I do try to lighten the X it will be with Voltex or Do-Luck products instead of Seibon...

 

I really wanted to DO LUCK Trunk Lid, but i DONT want the 1x1 Plain Weave. I am tryin to get them to do a *special order* 2x2 Twill Trunk...

 

For carbon fiber to last, it needs to stay out of direct sunlight as much as possible, or it will fade, they ALL do. Plus a clear coat won't help you much here unless it was a gel coat like what they use on boat finishes. The uv in the sun reactivates the resin that will bring the carbon to the surface, basically the resin will pull away from the surface, fiberglass does the same thing, that is why almost anything that is fiberglassed has to be painted. At least they are replacing it for you. I would recommend getting it sprayed with a urethane clear which will help some, but the best is gel coated.

Once and if i ever get the replacement, i will most likely spray it with a UV Protection Matte Finish Clear Coat. I have found some at Lowes which is used for lawn furniture and other outdoor products. I have a used carbon hood just collecting dust in the garage. I will sand off the current clear coat and try this stuff i found from lowes. I also found out about a new product by Dupont which is a urathane clear coat. I spoke with the Dupont rep and he was telling me about an aging machine they test products in. He told me i could send in a part from an overseas manufacture and then a part sprayed with the *new* Dupont stuff and age them together. I think you set it for incraments of 5 years up to 50 years. Pretty neat. The only problem is that it is a very very expensive piece of equipment and dupot only has (1) unit in the whole USA with a waiting list...

Sorry for being off-topic, what is up with the galaxy gray? Is there a difference between your gray and the graphite gray shown on Mitsu north america site?

 

LOL oops. Galaxy Gray was the color of my Ford Focus, hahaha. For got the "GG" means something different for Mitsu.

Okay here is the thing Seibon doesn't like dealing with customers. They deal with the vendors. You need to take it up with your vendor, who will take it up with Seibon. That is where my issue is....my vendor is lazy and won't take back my hood to Seibon....and Seibon won't send me stuff directly.
