For carbon fiber to last, it needs to stay out of direct sunlight as much as possible, or it will fade, they ALL do. Plus a clear coat won't help you much here unless it was a gel coat like what they use on boat finishes. The uv in the sun reactivates the resin that will bring the carbon to the surface, basically the resin will pull away from the surface, fiberglass does the same thing, that is why almost anything that is fiberglassed has to be painted. At least they are replacing it for you. I would recommend getting it sprayed with a urethane clear which will help some, but the best is gel coated.
