So i was driving home and when i was shifting to second gear the shift stick became loose. I pulled over and the shifter moved freely so i figure it was a cable that came loose and it was lol the clip that holds one link cable to the selector gate came off . I will post a picture of which one im talking about later. Anyhow i was only able to engage what felt like third gear and since i was two blocks away frome home i drove right into my garage. Opened up the hood and there it was the cable came off. Checked for the clip it was still there so i put it back and problem fixed. But has this happened to anyone before its scary as hell and is there a better way to secure this link to prevent that from happening?

Ohh well i just kinda made sure mine was even and that both sides are pushed together enought to nake some pressure also make sure its snapping in where its supposed to be theres a side where it slides in. I put mine back just like that and it hasnt come off yet

Same thing happened to me tonight. Tried searching and this is all I found. Wondering if anyone figured out a solution to keep it on. I did a hard shift to 3rd and heard something fall off and bounce under my car so now I must be missing a piece. Could someone post a picture showing how its supposed to look hopefully I can find out what I lost.

No I don't. But after looking at some of the selector gate bushing install how to's I think the part i lost is a 'rabbit ear' retainer clip

But when looking at mine it doesn't really look like that its more of some kind of copper clip
]not copper haha just dirty metal...

This is what it looks like now I don't know where the rabbit ear clip went or why I have this extra piece but idk where I would find a new one... Maybe a C clip would work Im not to sure about a cotter pin because I didn't see a hole that i could see but it was dark and didn't get a good look. Any ideas on how to keep this on?

My bud that's sleeping right now had this happen on his DSM. It's common on them when they've been apart to many times. I'm sure a search for this problem on a DSM might prove useful. :/
I'm actually going to do the search as well for the knowledge. Lol

Bump, anyone have a part number for the clip and retainer? Mine popped off on the highway and I need a spare

When I had the issue I went to Mitsu and the sell the clip but not the retainer. They told me the only way to get the retainer was to order the shifter cable assembly. I ended up buying the torque solutions cable bushings since they have a c-clip that holds the bushing on really well. I haven't had an issue with mine since

Sounds like a recall issue to me. This is unsafe... :/

I was using the works bushings so it kept the stock retainer unfourtantly. So i've ordered new AMS ones and just 3d printed a bushing to get me by for now and am using a washer and a E-clip to hold it all together. Will probably run a similar thing when my ams bushing show up.

For anyone with access to a 3d printer i've attached the retainer I made so that you can use it or keep a spare if need be. Might have to scale it up by 10 depending on the program

Good shit! Also if you don't own a 3D printer look locally. Here in SoCal we are seeing 3d print shops pop up all over.

Once my AMS bushings come in I'll make another retainer to work with them so that people have options and dont have to spend 130 on new cables for a $1 part

As promised, here's the AMS spacer. Seems to work well so far

I mean you could print a new turbo, dont think the plastic would be happy about being 2000*f lol
