Hello fellow SST owners. As we all know - SST is a great thing while it works and royal pita when it's not. And second one often comes with increased power.
To force you through the reading of text - here is a catch. There is a proof that few hundred dollars expenses can make your SST transmission reliably hold 530 lb.ft. torque on a stock clutch pack without any side effect and without external cooler for heavy track usage.
Interesting? Let's read the rest.
We have 3 major problems:
Clutch slip - ECU adjustments, clutch packs, overhaul kits.
Overheat - coolers, less oil, larger oil pan
Low gear hanging - decrease a power in ECU at low gears
There are also numerous TCU or mechanical faults, but that is out of the scope of the thread.
Now. The news is that 2 years ago Vadim Mihayluk - engineer in Russia Taganrog, owner of Evo X (and a factory manager) decided to start research on those subjects. So what he has found over the course of those 2 years is invaluable information that I want to share with wider community.
It's not a whole list. But last thing is very important. Whatever mode we are using for transmission - top clutch pressure is always same. TCU increases pressure until slip will be under control. But there is a top limit which is controlled by mechanical non adjustable valves.
Now. To solve heat pressure we need to solve excessive slip issue (don't forget - slip itself is a purpose of any clutch). It can be solved by fixing problems and by increasing friction of clutch pack. Last one can be solved by increasing friction coefficient or by increasing pressure.
And it can be fixed. Tested on practice a lot of times. Can't tell you how - because I don't know. And that comes from the following: There are 2 problems to use Vadim engineering research power for wide public.
So, I'm all for open source here.
I think sharing is good and makes a progress.
But I need to find a way for him to be financially supported.
That's my goal, because that's how it can be done efficient for everyone.
That's what we are planning to do together with him now.
Please don't bother him with trying to get more information - he already tired of a free riders, really.
Right now only thing he can do is sell a service of reworking SST for those who come locally. He charges 500 USD for 5 hours work and makes happy customers on a daily basis. But not in US, AU, CA, CN, UK and all other regions where fellow SST owners struggling to get a solution. Basically he only have like 20 Evo X within reach at most.
So I'm considering several things of how to do it:
Help him organize a research fund. That is - people can buy a subscriptions of different size and donate regularly some amount of money to the fund and get different scales of benefits from that including good feeling of supporting useful thing for everyone around. Main outcome - knowledge, solutions and cheap useful product for everyone.
Help him make best quality products with lowest possible price. That would be oil pans, seals, springs, metal plates, friction plates, caps and all kind of other parts for SST transmission with measured influence and direct knowledge when and why it's needed. I have access to the places where it can be done with required quality and with low price to make it affordable and remove this SST stigma of expensive, weak and unreliable device.
Help him make paid subscription for training videos on all kind of works required for SST. We know that after all - you need local shop. And local shop don't know how to do things proper. So it totally makes sense to start doing that.

Let's discuss first - I want to hear a feedback from community and professionals.

- Heat is produced by friction (we knew it already). No excessive slip - no excessive heat.
- Friction plates of clutch packs are not wearing out. Only metal plates require changes
- Dodson metal plates are softest on a market and that is opposite to the purpose - they can be easily damaged by local overheat. SSP metal plates are hardest one. Both of them not very temperature resistant.
- Dodson friction plates are extremely soft - that makes them wear fast, but they also have higher coefficient of friction - so less slip.
- Valve that closes clutch pack has very limited range of movement. So when metal plates are wearing - they become thinner and valve can't close them.
- Valve surface that pushes clutches also wears down and becomes smaller. So if you need to put clutch pack - it have to be custom size to restore original distance to valve.
- Adjustment of thermostat inside transmission can significantly improve oil cooling and remove any necessity for additional cooler on track at high temperatures.
- Proper oil pan can work as efficient temperature radiator + remove oil starving during rapid temperature increase like launch.
- Clutch effective pressure is second reason for slip. Effective pressure degrades over time because of: seals leakage (including internal one), oil passage clog with metal particles from metal plates, oil pressure valve damage, internal and external filter clog.
- Internal filter is a first reason for pressure degradation and it can be changed within 20 minutes of work without transmission removal.
- Clutch pressure regulated by valves through the command of TCU+ECU. Clutch pressure generated by pump. Clutch pressure is limited by spring loaded pressure regulating valve.

- He doesn't speaking english. That I can help.
- He doesn't have a good way to support his expensive researches. He already spent > 15K USD cash and around 20 man-month time. And to push research more he need a support and return a money. And it's not like he is a big shop that can return those investments easily.
