Hello everyone,

i'm working on a new generic base for a 2012 gsr based off of gunzo's generic base map. once i am done i will post it here.

the goal in mind is for a stock evo with a bit of clean up in the WOT ranges for timing and fuel to fix the knock and rich conditions.

the question i had is it okay to copy the JDM mivec tables from his base or has something changed in that regard? i'm hesitant because that map is for a 2008 and i dont know enough to start changing valve timing.

also while building the new high octane map i noticed the 2012 seems to run even more timing at idle (from 10 to 30!) and low load coast (from 40 to 44 degrees!):

Same as 2011

I would avoid trying to jump up 3* timing from cell to cell as it tends to induce knock if you are anywhere close optimal timing advance for your combo. Also as load rises the stockish maps tend to cut back timing a bit too severely, better off making them only fall off 1-2* as you go up 20 load. Same thing with fueling, it tends to get ultra rich a bit too quickly for my taste. :)

Hey Gunzo!

I have a friend that's running a 08 GSR with a full turbo back system and a apexei power intake. I know that intakes will suck in unmeasured air and could mess up the AFR because, we have this issue with Ralliart. So, should he be ok to run the generic map or, the one up? I know he must get a gauge to make sure he's not running lean. I'm thinking that the generic map is safe enough for him because it's still rich in nature?

This should be a sticky

No. You will have to use the 56890010 rom. The 56890013 rom isn't defined yet.

You can't just use any rom btw, the first 4 numbers of the new rom have to match your original Rom ID

You should add this for us noobs that are in the learning process

what are the pro's / con's to running the 2011-2012 higher timing in the idle areas vs. lower in the previous years roms?
That's a good question, hard to know for sure why the change was so dramatic, but I know my idle is perfect on my 2011. When you change the timing live with other tuning programs on DSM's like with ECMLink you can hear the tone of the engine change as you advance and retard the timing at idle.

Log one once. They actually idle at the same timing. ;)

I've tried it before...I setup my Alt map exactly like my main map, except the idle timing. When switching to the higher idle timing, the exhaust note was noticeably quieter/smoother and the engine pulled slightly more vacuum. Switch back to main map, lower/2008 idle timing, exhaust note was a little louder and slightly less vacuum.

I don't know which would be better...I'm not so sure there is an advantage to either one (it's only idle timing) but that's what I saw.
