And who's gonna count the AAA fee you need to get the car registered? For those of you who don't know, PA DMVs do not register cars, they have outsourced that to private parties who charge their own fee above the govt fee of said 36$. The DMV only does licensing.

I feel ya...mine the first renewal were like 400ish...they used to be a flat rate...but now they changed it depending on the value of your car. I would hate to own a 200k car, that would suck to register that thing.

First, this is going to vary greatly by state, and it's also based off the depreciated new value, meaning it goes down each year.

That being said, I believe I paid ~$550 last year. They'll be coming up again next month, so in a month I'll know how much less it is this year.

Only 3? I think California should secede...or just be thrown out lol. No offense to you Cali people, but you have crazy folks 'running' that state.

$50 every other year for the registration. taxes are not included. my "excise" tax was $330 this year. it lowers as the car depreciates. we aslo get inspections every year at $28/ year. this year will be $383 for my car to be legal before the $1,200 worth of insurance.

i hear florida is the least expensive. can somebody from fla chime in?

Mine was around $45 with new plates. When I renew next march they will be closer to $36 I believe. In ohio we only pay taxes when we purchase the car.

My aunt lives in connecticut and drives a toyota avalon and has to pay a luxury tax each year. its several hundred I believe.

This actually makes me feel good to live in Ohio. I also live in one of the most affordable areas in the country to live. it has one of the lowest cost of living rates.
