Hi Guys,
At this point I have a lot of money in my car and plan on making this as close as possible to a street legal race car while keeping safety and reliability a top priority as much as possible. At the end the day when I do everything I want this car will likely be a $60-70K Evo.
My question is.... What happens if the shit hits the fan....
Examples - Another person hits me and is at fault, I crash on the road or at a track event, or just any type of seriousness accident in general that may result in a total loss or massive damage. This is not to sound morbid, but just to know.
Obviously, insurance will give me the price of the Evo from their tables based on the common value, but is there supplemental insurance you can/have bought for your car? To be clear... This is not a thread to cheat insurance by not claiming mods or anything like that. I would prefer to claim everything and be covered. Not only for mods but labor costs and all. I talked to my insurance agent and called a few different companies but unfortunately the Representatives I talked to either
1) Didn't know
2) Were borderline retarded and gave me ludicrous answers like "Install everything first then apply for coverage and we will see if we can cover you" (You can't give me some sort of quote before I spend all the money installing everything to have you potentially reject me....That makes sense...)
3) Said stock car value only (Which my insurance company said)
If I want to buy $70K worth of insurance in case of a total collision (Almost like life insurance for my car, as opposed to car insurance or supplemental policy for about $40K), is this possible? What do those of you who drive heavily modified cars do? I personally don't understand why insurance companies don't offer this for increased premiums. Set values for coverage just like life insurance regardless of what the car costs, especially if you have receipts proving those costs. Is driving a 70K Evo any different from a $70K BWM... In my mind no because $70K is $70K, just increase my premiums, I would totally understand that to have rock solid coverage if something went wrong (/end mini rant)
If the car were to be totaled in a way where the frame was bent and insurance deemed it a total collision, would you be able to pull out the motor and all of your upgrades or would insurance fight you saying that they own the remnants of the car should you want to get your check?
Lot of information here but I think many Evo owners have probably ran these scenarios through their head.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
