Car feels slower after SRI. Boost leak?

Hey guys, just installed my short ram intake by bardabe performance today. My car feels slower, however. No tune, catback exhaust, short ram, and UICP are the only mods. My brother said the car feels faster but it feels like it revs up slower and does not drive as fast in general. Could it be a boost leak or is it all in my head? Thanks

Also, can you hear a boost leak? I can hear the intake sucking air, but when I get to around 4-5k RPM it seems like it's trying to suck in waaay more air. Could this be the leak?

Edit: Could it be the UICP? The couplings that came with the kit didn't fit on snugly, but I clamped them down really well.

boost leak would also be vac leak. Do you have a rough idle with some stumble? Do you see consistent vacuum on your boost gauge? I doubt you're able, but is your long term fuel trim adjusting closer to +15% to compensate for a boost leak?

You're the OE BOV or at least have it configured to recirc right?

Untuned intake gives me less power like this?
Why AC full blast?
Don't have a boost gauge... Sigh. And my idle is the same as it was before I threw on the intake

Edit:Yes I have the OEM BOV recirculating. Well, I connected the piping back to the BOV at least

The maf housing is probably NOT the same size as the intake if you removed it from the stock intake and put it in an aftermarket intake. The MAF itself, however, may be the same, but that's not the question at hand.

If you put it in a larger intake pipe, you are running leaner with the same tune, period.

There's a guide to doing your own MAF scaling somewhere here, but I'm pretty sure you need to be able to log data. See if anyone (or the company themselves) has made a MAF scale for your intake. Do you have an Access port?

Whatever you end up doing, don't go WOT until you get this sorted out. Don't want to blow up your motor

So I just need to get the car tuned.... I'm thinking I'm getting leaks because bardabe didn't send me their I/C piping, the piece that connects the UICP to the intercooler. The other parts didn't fit very well. I'm going to call them about it

No access to an AP. Yeah I won't go into WOT. I gassed it a bit and I heard some backfire.

Lol,

I think someone needs to step back and explain to him that:
The MAF stands for "Mass Air Flow" and is a sensor. That is the part that you screwed into your new sensor.

The MAF Housing is where that MAF sensor screws into. That's built into the intake, so you can't simply install an OEM size MAF housing.

However, as others have said, the ECU (computer that controls the car) can be reprogrammed to know that the MAF housing size has changed. This is necessary because due to the size increase of your new intake, the car believes that there is less volume of air entering the engine then there really is. This make the car run dangerously and is probably the cause the performance issues you are feeling.

Drive easy on it and go get a tune ASAP.

Chet is correct. If this intake is a 3" you need to be tuned for this intake. It's not like the dozen other common intakes available for the X that do not require tuning.

Kooldino: if someone touches the car, they can always do something wrong :) Like with just the intake if it has a port that has the vac line that goes to the pcv valve, and they leave the hose off, its' a vac/boost leak, because it's down the pipe from the MAF generally.

There's always something that can go wrong. I'm with you on thinking it's hard to mess up an intake install, but common sense isn't always so common.

FWIW Aaron, if the vendor gave you any impression your car doesn't run right because you didn't buy their IC pipe kit, I would just back away from them for mods. Hit up a well known vendor like MAP, ETS, AMS, Cobb, etc. Any one of those places I can guarantee the person on the phone is well versed with the Evo and you can have a huge amount of confidence in what they recommend to you.

I know I hooked everything up properly, and it's all tight I can feel it. I'm just thinking it's because the IC piping coupling doesnt cover the second bead. IT's just not long enough to. But it's on tight in between the two beads so there shouldn't be any problem, right?

Maybe I do just need a tune. Juan said it should be running fine though, and that even with a catback I shouldn't experience a decrease in power.

I'm located in the LA area. Was gonna get tuned by Naji, but he hasn't responded to my email. Don't have enough $$$ for a tune by RRE yet.... LOL

My advice is SEARCH/ask question before u buy..
If u dont want to tune your car sell your intake and get aFe intake or similar that dont need tuning..
