I don't know how the black is 'still the way to go'. Theres what, 4 of us who are tuned with one? But still, seeing my results, and especially murlo's, why would you want anything else? Theres really three options viable for our car: stock, black, and 35r. The bbx/green/red folks are kidding themselves, just ask hotdog.

The FP Green is still a good option for mid range power, IMHO. The FP Red still requires more RPMs to make power, and the FP Black, frankly, unless you're building your block, is kind of an odd option.

The problem for a lot of people is the fact they're all basically the same fucking price, minus the FP Black at +500$. Looking at them, without doing research, is confusing.

I don't autox, so idk fully, but wouldn't stock + e85 be better than a red? And really, the black lag is 300 vs the Red, does that make a real difference in autox?

All I know is that i run the red and notice virtually no lag at all. you say 300 rpm more, but that is quite a bit in autox. i am biased though because I have the red. Also, E85 on the stock block is a recipe for disaster. People tend to push their car too far on E85 and then......kaboom

I think the other size turbo's still have their place.

But honestly, the stock turbo on E85 is very fun and would downright own a red in autox if the red was on pump gas.

Regardless, the red and black is pretty close for spool time.

#12 ·
Because it would :)

I should clarify though that a person who is awesome at driving could probably win in the Red powered car, but to almost anyone who isn't professional the stock turbo E85 will have a much wider powerband and way more usable torque and be a lot easier to drive.

but even at 4-5k rpms, the red should have virtually no lag. i have never gone below 4k rpms on an autoX course

the stock turbo has all of its tq down in the 2000-5500 rpm band or so.. with e-85 you'll have incredible tq down low with literally no lag!
very true. i still think a red would be better

The Red is red and red so the red rules and I choose red over all other colors because.... I have one. There. End thread.

LOL, not many people have driven all the turbos out there. I wish people would listen to those that have. (I'm not one.)

Well i was my car on the track beside that is a DD car so I really do not do Autox cause is always in a sunday and i work sunday plus the are almost 2 hours away :-(

But yeah goals are between 450 to 500 on the stock block and i be a happy men lol!! i just got my a exedy twin clutch hd for the EVO but so far i am leaning more to the fpblack turbo so far and since we it is my DD and i am on the military i am trying to get back to overseas so wanna keep fuel gas and get a race fuel tune for the track days

#31 ·
e-85 is not a bad idea neither but i DD my car and i drive it sometimes in long trips so that in the only reason why i will keep it in pump gas but the other problem that is that we only get 91 oct in here lol!!! but i will have a double pumper on the car so will see if i can make over 400 in pump gas i be happy with the car and just have a race fuel tune for the track

So should i just keep my inline MDK fuel pump that i have ?? i was gonna send it back to MAP and use the money they give me to get the double pumper plus the hanger and pay the different

So should i just keep my inline MDK fuel pump that i have ??
Not sure what that is. An inline Walbro 255 kit? That should be plenty since the stocker+inline combo > 255 in tank.

now will be able to make over 400 in 91 with the fp black
The results for the 8/9 should be comparable to the peak numbers on the X (we get better spool).

Garett gets some hate in the X community, if you want it get it and prove everyone wrong :p

Have your housing replaced. Garrett sends out new ones for free now. I got mine in already.
Still haven't done the tune, which is a next thing to do for me (hopefully, the final).
